Robi Becomes the First to Announce 5G
On Monday (September 1), Robi officially launched its 5G services at its headquarters in Tejgaon, Dhaka. In the first phase, the network has gone live in selected areas of Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet.
Robi Axiata’s Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer, Shahed Alam, stated:
“We are testing customer experience and monitoring how effectively 5G works. The network expansion will depend on customer demand and device readiness.”
Robi’s goal is to launch 800–1000 5G sites by the end of next year. Importantly, the pricing of 5G will remain the same as 4G.
Grameenphone Rolls Out 5G in All 8 Divisional Cities
About an hour after Robi’s launch, Grameenphone announced their 5G services via a live video on their official Facebook page.
Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman said:
“Today, we are launching 5G services simultaneously in all divisional cities across Bangladesh. Grameenphone has always been committed to innovation, and this is another milestone.”

Coverage will expand daily as new towers are enabled
Towers with higher density of 5G-enabled smartphones will get priority
Initially, iPhone users will get access first, followed by Android users
